Be & Go

One of the easiest options to work  in China after graduation (due to visa logistics) is teaching English. To work for any company legally, you need an undergraduate degree in addition to 2 years' full-time, relevant work experience.

However, to obtain a work visa teaching English, this 2 year's full-time work experience can be replaced with a TEFL course. It costs around £379.00 and includes an intensive 20-hour classroom-based workshop.

If you've just graduated and you're thinking about teaching English in China, it's important to consider the following:

  • Initial starting costs (TEFL £379.00, Degree, DBS criminal record & TEFL notarized, legalized and authorized around £350, Flights from £3-400, Insurance from £6-800 annually... Total £1,780) Whilst this may seem like a lot, some schools will contribute to your flights and nearly all will pay for your visa documents. You'll also be earning between £2,000 - £3,000 a month so any initial costs will soon be compensated.

  • Location - cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu and Guangzhou are becoming increasingly modern, convenient and "Western friendly" however for a  more "authentic" Chinese experience, check out smaller cities such as Xiamen, Suzhou and Hangzhou!
